Twenty Goal Thriller!

June 15, 2017. Wags Vs. Rangers  (Attendance  4)
The starting line of M&M Mike, Speed Racer Jay and Killer Kyle came out flying with 100 seconds of great energy. They got several scoring chances until the goalie froze the puck. That led to a faceoff in the offensive zone. The tired Rangers used that whistle to send out a fresh line while the Wags line chose to stay out a little longer. That turned out to be a bad move as the Rangers got a break away goal at 13:58.
A minute later, Dan "Da Coach" Lopatka stepped in front

of a speeding Ranger and got knocked over.  The referee raised his hand to signal a penalty. We wondered what the call would be.  A basketball ref would have called charging, but he surprised us all by giving Dan 2 minutes for hooking! The Wags crew did a fine job of killing the penalty so when he returned, Matt "The swatter" Swastek tied the score with assists from Mike "M&M" Matker and Killer Kyle Sandowski. Three minutes later, Steve "G-Man" Gaul scored an unassisted goal to take a 2-1 lead.  That goal gave Steve 7 goals in the last 3.6 periods. That lead only lasted only 37 seconds when the Rangers scored with 6:06 left in period one.  Thirty seconds latter, a teacher and student restored the Wags lead, when Dan "Da Coach" Lopatka set up a goal for a kid he coached at Lake Park High, Brad "Spear Shooter" Murphy.  Things were looking good until Jay The Slasher got sent to the sin bin for slashing. Jay didn't even get to sit down, because he went free after the Rangers scored a power play goal in 4 seconds! Mike "m&m" Miller took a pass from Steve "G-Man" Gaul and gave Wags a 4-3 lead with 41 seconds left in the first period.  Dominic "The Rover" Rovito scored 2 goals in the first 4 minutes  of the second period to give Wags a little breathing room.  Dom's first goal came after G-Man Gaul's shot stunned the goalie

with a blast below the belt.  The puck went right to Dom for an easy tap in.  Dom's second goal was set up with a beautiful pass from Jack "The Ripper" Iandoli.  Jack made a speedy rush up ice where he stopped at the top of

the right circle. The goalie braced for a blast that never came as Dominick one timed Jack's hard pass into the left side of the net.  That goal took the heart out of the Rangers because they hit a post just before

that and a goal would have made it 5-4, instead it was 6-3.
Dan Da Coach fired a slapshot from his blue line that Jay redirected into the top shelf.  On his next shift, Jay followed that up with a power play goal that was assisted by Tommy Z-Man Zagorski. That made it 8-3 so we were looking at a running clock with a 5 goal lead, but the Rangers woke up and scored a pair of goals to end that scenario. Steve "G-Man" Gaul took the sting out of those goals with an unassisted goal with 12 seconds left in period 2. Steve got that 5 goal lead back midway through the period when he took a pass from

Goalie Ed and went coast to coast to score a short handed goal. Waghorn made sure that his assist was recorded on the score sheet.  The running clock lasted less than 2 minutes because the Rangers scored and made it 10-6.  Jay tripped over the red line right after that and he went to the bench and started beating the glass until he broke his $200 stick. (I was voice texting comments into my notepad and it typed, "Jay broke his $200 dick by banging it on the glass."  The fans in the stands were laughing for a while when they saw that and one said that they are not worth that much.) The Rangers got inspired by that broken stick and scored 2 more goals to cut the lead to that dreaded 2 goal lead with 3:27 left to play, but Jay's new stick came to the rescue and scored at 2:34 with an assist from m&m Miller. He put the game away with another goal with 2:02 left when Speargun  Murphy set him up. Kevin "smooth as" Glass had a fine game paired up with Jack the Ripper on defense.
Final Score: Wags 12, Rangers 8
Ed "The Wall" Waghorn made 9 saves in the wild 3rd period to total 30 saves.
