Wags Move into First Place!

May 10, 2012, Backdoor B's Vs. Wags at Center Ice
I can't remember the last time we scored 5 goals and won a game, because late night beer league games usually have 15-20 goals. How did we do it?, Great defense by
Dan "The Man" Lopatka, Chris "Muffler Man" Schultz, Gary "The Inhibiter" Hibbler and John Waghorne helped Ed "The Wall" Waghorne hold the Backdoor B's to only 2 goals until they pulled their goalie and scored with only 1:44 left in the game. We fell behind 5 minutes into the game when P. Hoss beat Ed with a soft goal.  It looked like a long night, but Kyle

Tony was late, so he just got a beer and became a fan with  Anna and me in the stands.

"Killer" Sandowski scored an unassisted goal to tie it up just 2 minutes later.  The score remained tied until Handsome Rancic (He has the fewest stitches on the team) scored an unassisted goal with just 28 seconds left in the period. He scored a late period goal last week to snuff out the Blazing Seals. Two minutes into the second period, Ed Waghorn got a 2 minute minor and a 10 minute misconduct for bitch slapping a punk.  Pete "The Plumber" Hornick graciously volunteered to serve Ed's 12 minute penalty, saying, "I was digging ditches all day, so I can use the rest." Tony "The Tiger" Letto who was having a beer in the stands was going to serve the penalty, but it would have taken him more than 12 minutes to get dressed, so he stayed in the stands and cheered. The first 9 minutes of the second period remained scoreless until Kevin "Smooth as" Glass made it 3-1 with a bad angle shot on net. Just before he shot I yelled, "put it on net!" Gary also shouted, "shoot the puck!"  It is great when players listen to good advice.  Charley Hoss made it close when he scored with 3:27 left in the second period. Jay "Road Runner" DeMaria made it 4-2 with 12:52 left in the game when he teamed up with Chris "Mad Man" Marzyn for a beautiful goal that had the goalie out of moves. (He may have had a bowel movement left after that goal, but that was it) The Lopatkas teamed up to give us a 5-2 lead. The Back door B's were starting to swarm as they passed the puck around the perimeter and forced Ed to make some great saves.  We finally got out of the zone when Jeff "JLO" Lopatka

blocked a slap shot that  Shultz pounced on and passed to Uncle

Tony was a little late, so he decided to join us in the stands.  Thanks to Anna for taking this picture of Mel (Jeff's girl) Tony and me.

"Muffler Man" Schultz has one leg out of the sin bin as he waits for the final second of his "Body Checking" penalty to tick off.

It got interesting when they pulled the goalie and made it 5-3.
