Return of the Rangers

January 15, 2015, Rangers Vs. Wags
Wags 4, Rangers 4.
One month ago, Wags and the Rangers locked horns and the Wags picked up a thrilling 7-6 playoff win.  The rematch had fewer goals as both goalies were playing great. Wags peppered the Ranger goalie with 12 shots in the first period, but they couldn't get one past him.  With 2:42 left in the period, Chris "The Ruffian" Luedtke was sent to the sin bin for roughing. The Rangers

A thrilling finish.

took advantage of that call and scored a power play goal with 2:13 left in the period.  Nineteen seconds into the second period, Uncle Dan Lopatka blasted a slap shot that found it's way into the net after hitting a defender's stick.  Four minutes later, Tommy Z fired a flutter blast that eluded the Ranger goalie and gave Wags a 2-1 lead. Two minutes later, Torry "Snuffy" Snick gave Wags a 2 goal lead with a blast that the goalie never saw.  All three goals were listed as unassisted. (Sometimes the referees and scorekeeper get lazy)  It looked like Wags would take a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period, but the Rangers made a slick passing play that set up #37 for an easy tap in with only 14 seconds left in period two.  The referees were so impressed that they gave 2 assists on the goal.  Three minutes into third period, the Rangers struck again when they had a 5 on 3 power play thanks to two roughing penalties to The Ruffian and Speed Racer Jeff.  Jeff got a 2 and a ten for being rougher than the Ruffian, so he got to go have a beer with his grandpa, Mel and Anna in the stands.  The game remained tied at 3-3 until Roadrunner Jay got caught holding with 2:47 left in the game. You can guess what happen after that, the Rangers scored their 3rd power play goal with only a minute and 43 seconds left to play.  That caused the Wags to pull the Waghorn to add a 6th attacker and soon the one man advantage turned into a 2 man advantage when #5 Keith Kozzy decided to cherry pick and get an easy hat trick with the wide open empty net.  The Wags sextet passed the puck adroitly around and controlled the play as the Rangers tried desperately to knock it out of the zone to their cherry picker. A trio of Wags players crashed the net and Brad Murphy banged in the tying goal with 29 seconds left in the game.  The Referees gave two assists on the goal, but they screwed

up. They gave the goal to Tattoo Mike who was on the bench at the time and the assists went to Gary "The Inhibitor" Hibbler and Brad who really scored the goal.  They gave 4 assists on 2 goals and no assists on the other 6 goals!  The Ranger Goalie was credited with 36 saves and Ed "The Wall" Waghorn picked up 22 saves with several break-aways

Jeff's roughing penalty was rewarded with a shower and a beer break.

Wags added a 6th attacker in the final minute.

The Rangers #5 decided to stay in the neutral Zone when he saw that empty net

He shoots and scores! Brad ties the game with 29 seconds left to play.

The Rangers made a valiant charge, but The "Wall" saved the tie.

Jeff was the only player smelling good in the locker room.

Tattoo Mike's daughter Carmela had a fine game on Sunday.  She loves playing goalie.  (Below) Her Dad Mike is on the bench wondering what he is in for.

Carm got a Silver Medal at the United Center.
