Duffer News

We had a Black and Blue Night!

Romeoville, IL October 24, 2014  Attendance: 23
Cowboy Joe Had 2 More Goals!

The game started with the Whites dominating the first 2 shifts. The Czar scored on the 1st shift and then Greg Z scored on the second shift when he banged in Cupcake's rebound. It looked like the Whites were on there way to an easy win, but the Reds made an adjustment sending Monet Mike back on D so that Commander Ken could move up to forward.  That move paid dividends as Ken scored one of 6 unanswered Red goals while the Whites were shut out until the 3rd period. The Reds were dominant on Defense when Doc teamed up with Monet Mike to form a dynamic duo.  Speed Racer Jeff and Bill BTW completed the defensive quartet that created many scoring chances with hot passes to crashing forwards. Cowboy Joe continued his hot scoring with 2 more goals.  The Commander's guest, Rob, Scored an un-Duffer like goal when he redirected a hot pass past the Brain's Brain.

Barron was presented with his first Duffer goal puck.

Speed Racer had one of his hot passes miss everyone and find the back of the net.  While his team was on fire, The Anvil was again looking like a taller Darren Pang. He foiled several great opportunities by Barron and Cupcake, who also had 3 Klinger Krashes. That impressed Beak enough to tell Cupcake, "If you show up at the picnic next year, you may get an award."  It was a game of bruises, Monet Mike had a bruise on the tip of his nose from a high stick that his 5 year old son laid on him before the game. His brother Jeff was calling him Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. The Hammer fired a clearing pass with a meat seeking puck that missed all of Beak's pads and gave him a basketball size bruise on his inner thigh. The Hammer said he was sorry.  Only in Duffer's Hockey will you hear a guy apologize to a guy who just blocked his clearing pass.   Beak also took a tumble on his titanium hip when he stepped on the Czar's stick. The Czar helped him get back up while the Reds continued to fire shots at the Brain.  That was Beak's first fall since Columbus. The Czar also helped him up then.  What an organization! The fastest guy on the ice was 8 year old Ryan Kroll, who was flying around the ice after dropping the puck on face-offs.  It was fun watching him race to the scorer's box to post a goal on the scoreboard, then race to center ice to drop the puck before most of the Duffers arrived for the face-off.  Ken told Beak that Ryan said, "Dad, you play with a bunch of benders!"  The King might have named us the Downers Grove Benders back in 1971 if that word was conceived back then. The Teams exchanged goals.  Tom "T.O." O'Connor banged in a rebound for the Reds and "Who Knows"scored for the Whites to close out the game with a 7-4 win for Eddie and the Reds.  Maybe we can get Old "What's his name" to record a song with that title. It could be on the flip side of Bennie and the Jets.  Oh, you young guys don't know what a flip side song is.  Ball Peen Hammer Matt may have had one of those goals.  He had passed up many chances when he tried to set up inept Duffers.  He is a great Duffer in Training, plus he likes to play goalie!

Things to know:
We had enough beer thanks to leftovers from V-Man and Barron. · We need Boris at Wild Wings to straighten out their many managers.  They keep giving us ugly waiters instead of pretty waitresses· Bird Man Dan was out with Bird Flu.· Berserk failed to deliver Tommy Z's popcorn.
Perfect attendance:

After 7 games, 9 Duffers have Perfect Attendance: Speed Racer Jeff, Doc, Bill BTW, Beak, Czar, Fruitcake Fred, Magoo and V-Man.

Barron was presented with the puck that he scored his first Duffer goal with.

Monet Mike hopes to win an award with this tattoo at the next convention.

We had a black and blue night. My grandson Mike showed up with a bruised nose that his 5 year old son Lennie gave him with a high stick in the driveway.  Barron was playing with a new Tattoo on his knee (Left) and I picked up a colorful thigh bruise when I blocked a clearing pass. I used that bruise as a background for this web page.

Fruitcake's son Cupcake has several bruises after 3 Klinger Krashes.

Greg had a goal for the Whites, and Doc played a fine game of shutdown Defense with  Monet  Mike.

Cowboy Joe continued his scoring streak with 2 more goals.

Speed Racer Jeff had a goal and 3 assists to hel Eddie and the Reds win again.

I got tattooed with a puck.  It made a nice background.

Maybe I'll let Mike give me this one when the Cubs win the World Series.

If you missed the Solar Eclipse on 10/23/2014, I have some pictures on my Astronomy Events page.
