Reds get 5 Meaningful Goals!

Romeoville, IL October 10, 2014  Attendance: 21
Cowboy Joe Had Another Hat!

We had Lots of beer thanks to TO and V-Man.  Greg Z almost brought beer but was stopped by a phone call.  V-Man's guest  Jim put the Whites up early when he took a pass from I don't know.  His wife, a Blackhawk Ice Crew member on maternity leave, was in the stands cheering him on. Greg Z added to the lead when he scored a goal that was set up by I've no clue.  The Reds trailed for quite a while as Johnny B was kicking everything out.  Cowboy Joe finally got the Reds on the board when he teamed up with Speed Racer Jeff for a very un-Duffer like goal.  Joe passed to Jeff in the neutral zone then took a pass from Jeff that forced Johnny B to slide over and cover the left side of the net, so Joe returned the puck to Jeff who instantly slid an ice hugger back to Joe who buried the puck to make the score 2-1.  That goal started a string of 6 unanswered goals by Magoo, Bird Man Dan, Cowboy Joe, T.O. and Dan

Tom Zim scored 2 goals, Thor helped a little.

again.  Many of them were set up by the Red's stellar defense troika of Jeff, V-Man and Fruitcake. The Whites came out of their coma with 2 goals Tom Zim and another by Greg Z.  Those goals were set up by Terry, Bill BTW, the Commander, Thor, Steve the Hammer and I forgot.  (I'm making stuff up now, but it could be true) Cowboy Joe scored again to give the Reds a 7-5 lead when he took a nice pass from someone.  Beak made it 8-6 when he one-timed a pass from his grandson Jeff. Terry and Dan M. offered more details to explain how this goal was scored.  Dan said he took a shot that Johnny B kicked out right to Jeff who set his Grandpa up.  Terry claimed an assist by saying that he had the puck with 3 options that would clear the zone. He decided to spring Thor for a breakaway, but his clearing pass was snared by Jeff.  Now you know the rest of the story and why we go to Wild Wings to write Duffer history.  Cowboy Joe went on to get another Hat trick when he poked the puck away from Terry who was about to send a pass deep. Joe took off and gathered in the puck and scored a beautiful unassisted goal.  Jeff scored an accidental goal when he was trying to set Magoo up for a back door goal but his pass found the far corner and Jeff looked ashamed and Magoo celebrated.  The Anvil was spectacular looking a lot like Darrin Pang, only  taller. Jim DeGuest created a memorable moment when he raced in behind the net to try to steal the puck from Jeff. Jeff made a nifty pass to himself with a bounce off of the back of the net when Jim raced by.  Jim tried to make a quick stop that sent him spinning and crashing to the ice.  Laughter ensued! We are hoping that his wife was running video when that happened.  Youtube would have a lot of hits for that one.

Perfect AttendanceAfter 6 games, 10 Duffers have Perfect Attendance: Speed Racer Jeff, Doc, Bill BTW, Beak, Czar, Tumblin Terry, Fruitcake Fred, Magoo and V-Man.

Cowboy Hat Trick Joe

V-Man thought he was Brent Seabrook.

Mike "Monet" Lopatka lost his perfect attendance status for a good cause.  He won 12 awards for his art work at the Tattoo Convention in Champaign. Two were for the above cover up, first place unique and second place best of the day. (Above)

Baron The Piercer will be presented with the puck from his first Duffer goal. Why are we being so nice to him?  He brought a case of beer on his first night.

If you are planning to view the Solar Eclipse on October 23, 2014, you should get Mylar eclipse glasses. Amazon has 3 for $5.95. You can look directly at the sun with these. You can do damage to your eyes by looking at the Sun without protection, ask Galileo.  I still have the glasses that the Sun Times gave my students and me for the Christmas Solar Eclipse of 2000. The eclipse will begin in the Chicago area at 4:36 PM and continue until it slips out of view at sunset. We should see about 50% of the sun covered by the Moon. The Adler Planetarium has Mylar glasses for sale. Don't miss it and pray for a clear sky.
