Welcome to

MLF Game was played on Saturday, April 14, 2012

Tom O'Connor had the quote that calmed the guys down before we took the ice.  I said, "just remember that this is show business, so manage your anger." "TO" said, "That means that we are the Washington Generals."

I Didn't win the Biller Spear gun, but I did get an autographed puck. Magoo was the only Duffer to win a prize that I know of.  John's Daughter is watching TV on the 52 inch big screen TV that her boy friend won.

Friday the 13th was Bad Luck!

Romeoville, IL
April 13, 2012

Attendance: 21

Friday The 13th was unlucky for the Anvil!
The sides looked even at game time with each team having 9 skaters.  Then The Czar decided to trade himself to the Whites who already had more speeders than the Reds.  When Beak asked him why he left us with 8 slow guys and gave the Whites 10 fast skaters, he said, "You can have Harvey when he comes out."

Two Minutes for Too Much fun.

The bad luck continued to pile on The Anvil when Papa Joe decided to play referee and save himself for the MLF game.  Papa Joe lost sight of a puck that was in the crease just as the Bookie came flying in to poke it in just as Papa was in the act of blowing the whistle. (He's 82!  When I'm 82, I'll probably lose sight of the puck when I drop it)  We haven't had a goal disallowed by a whistle in years because we don't allow our referees to have whistles.  Our most dependable referee, 10 year old Dillon Nance, was ticked off after Papa hogged all of the face offs, so he left early and went into the locker room to cool off and get ready for Wild Wings. I hope he didn't have a beer. After that goal was disallowed, peg leg Brinks scored a pair to add to solo goals by Greg Z, The Czar and Rags.  Beak was so  happy that Nick was starting to get it as he was passing every time he got the puck, but nobody could finish, so late in the 3rd period he told Nick, "Go score some goals!" He picked up a Hat Trick in the next 2 shifts to make the final Meaningless score 5-3. Brinks had the only Meaningful goals.

Memorable Moments

  • Brinks had 2 more goals on one good leg.
  • Geno made his return.  Nick asked Beak where Geno had been and when he was told that he had eye surgery, Nick replied, "On his good eye?" Beak said, "Think about your question." Nick just laughed.
  • After his Dad had a talk with him, Nick did not take a shot until Beak said, "We're are down 5, start shooting."

Saturday The 14th was Good Luck for the Anvil!

Eddie needed all the help that he could get as the Rampage women really improved and they put some skirts on some speedy non Duffer young guys.  We had trouble getting out of our zone in the first period and only had 2 shots on goal.  Little Brandi stoned

Mini Wheezer on a clean break away. They scored an early goal when their hot shot put Eddie down then slowly tucked it behind him. The Rampage went up 2-0 when a cute little blonde fired a nice shot off of the right post and into the net.

(MLF Game Continued) Page 2

Tom "TO"  O'Connor finally got us on the board when he fired a rebound past a sprawling Brandi. The Rampage made it 3-1 when The Anvil came 20 feet out to play the puck, but when he saw that Doc came to help him out, they looked like Moe and Curly playing "You take it, no you take it" they did that until a cute little lady on skates came by and said, "I'll take that" and flipped the puck into the

unattended net to give the Rampage a 3-1 lead. After that goal, The Anvil put on the greatest display of goal tending that I ever saw.  It rivaled the show that Stump put on in Hayward back in 1994 when he held the young Hayward Muskies to just 3 goals. That is the same game that Berserk got a hat trick with his infamous  penalty shot.  Mini Wheezer was inspired by some of Eddies great saves and got that goal back with a rebound of a great save.  We started to get some momentum when Brandi stopped Brinks on a break away.  Eddie and Brandi were putting on a goalie clinic. Berserk tied it late in the second period, but that made the hot shots crank it up big time.  One jerk cranked a slap shot from 10 feet away fight into Eddie's chest.  He cranked another one that rang up the post and Eddie covered it. TO scored again to give us the lead.  Mini Wheezer then scored an insurance goal when he beat Brandi with a wrap around.  I know what you are thinking, only tall lanky guys with long arms can do a wrap around, but I swear I saw a short portly guy with short arms skate behind the net and tuck it in.  Thor may have distracted Brandi by telling  how hot she looked in those goalie pads, so he gets the assist.

"TO" scored again to pick up his hat trick and ice the game, but that only infuriated the "Skirted Wonder". He started flying all over the ice and cranking slap shots whenever he got the chance.  Our defense had their hands full and they did a great job.  We were planning to go with just The Maestro, Bookie, Crash Nance and Berserk on defense, but when Stump showed up and surprised us with a big check we paired him up with Doc to give us 6 defensemen and they did a great job. We had 16 skaters, so we rotated 4 left wingers.  Papa Joe, Harvey, Magoo and Beak enjoyed the extra bench time. Stump dumped a guy that was acting like a fool and the referee said, "play on, he had it coming." At first I thought Stump dumped a lady,

The Anvil asks Mini Wheezer how he scored that wrap around goal.

but I was relieved to find out that the player had balls. They pulled Brandi and added a 6th attacker, but The Anvil was solid and kicked out everything that was shot toward the net.  There was one 90 MPH slap shot that just missed Eddie's head, so The Anvil skated out to meet him face to face and they had words.  The Referee blew the whistle and told the jerk that he was out of line with his actions.  By that time the clock was winding down, so the Rampage added 7 or 8 more skaters and we all laughed as the final buzzer sounded. We shook hands and received the MLF Cup.  Thanks to the following guys for donating their time and money to the great cause. 1st line, Papa Joe, Cowboy Joe and TO.  2nd line: Brinks, Thor and Beak. 3rd line: Magoo, Geno, Mini Wheezer and  Rover Harvey.  Defensemen: Maestro, Bookie, Crash Nance, Stump, Doc and Berserk .
The Alien was one of the first to donate to the cause, but he was on the DL.
Tom Ambrosia
also contributed but was unable to play with a bad back.   John Koss showed up with lots of beer, pop and a cash donation.
Thanks to the tireless work of the Rampage Women, the event raised over a thousand dollars more than last year. We are over $8,300.00 with money still coming in.

Thanks to Tony Granato for getting us all of those valuable prizes.
