Bradley played Marquette yesterday and scored the winning goal in OT with 8 seconds left on the clock. The final score was 8-7. There were many penalties for both teams but Marquette was better at it. One time the ref said, "It will be 5 on 3 for a lot of minutes." before they sorted it out. One had 5 minutes and there were several 4 minute penalties. I never saw such hostility in a game, not even the Duffers.
Mark made the video and it is a fun watch. *:(fight) fight

Dan Smith has been the Bradley #1 goalie since he was scored on by Pittsburgh Penguin coach Dan Blylsma (his teammate) in 2011 when he bailed us out and talked his mom into letting him go on a Duffer road trip.  He is now old enough to have a beer and he wants to know when the Duffers are going to Detroit.

The Brain, Thor and Cowboy Joe returned to action, but these guys are still AWOL.

Duffer News

MVP to Matt and his Mom!

Romeoville, IL October 3, 2014  Attendance: 28
5 goals for the Lopatkas!

Our Goalie coordinator forgot to get us a goalie and that hasn't happened in 30 years until last September. Now it has happened twice in just over a year.  It must be the Apple Cider. We miss you Stump!  We started the game with only Eddie in the nets. So a "Goalie Alert" went out at 8:30. The Hammer's wife Rosa got the call to bring her son Matt's goalie equipment to the rink ASAP. Matt was dressed and ready to play early in the 2nd period. Thank You Rosa and Thank You Matt. Matt is a speedy forward on his youth hockey team but he is a "closet goalie" like Tweedy.  Fortunately, Matt talked his parents into buying him goalie pads so that he could play goalie on Commander Ken's outdoor rink.  Matt did a fine job, he has all of the pro goalie moves that you see on TV. Matt thought he lost, but Fruitcake scored the 4th White goal when the Reds were up 7-3. Using the Bobka Factor, that goal put the Whites up 16-7. (4 squared is 16)

Beak had 3 goals thanks to set ups from his grand-sons, Jeff and Mike.

Most of the 7 goals were scored in the first period while Matt was waiting for his Mom to deliver his pads.
Beak got the Reds on the board early when he took a pass at the blue line from his grandson Jeff .  Beak's eyes lit up when he saw only Bill BTW between him and the net, so he fired a one hopper that skipped past Bill's waving stick and into the net.  Beak scored again on his second shift when he took a pass from his grandson Mike on his right wing near the White bench.  He turned and fired a no look shot that went right in. LSMFT (Lucky Strike Means Fine Tally) That goal was a lucky strike. If you Google LSMFT, you will find that it was on the pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes from 1945 until the 1960s.  The tobacco industry used commercials to burn that into my 5 year old brain and I can't get rid of it. The Whites had a tough time beating The Anvil until Greg Z scored to make the score Reds 2, Whites 1.  The Whites put the net face down to make it harder to score and that did cut down the scoring until Steve the Hammer did manage to pop one into the top netting and that was declared a goal.  Rob the guest scored a goal to put the Reds up 4-1.  Eddie's son, Nick DeJesus, decided to close the gap when he raced in all alone on his dad.  Nick threw all of his fancy moves at his Dad, but Eddie stopped him and 3 more rebound shots.

Barron the "Piercer" finally lifted a soft flutter blast over the prone, exhausted Anvil for his first Duffer goal.  Early in the second period, Matt arrived and put an end to the cheap goals.  The Maestro spoiled the kid's shutout midway

through the 2nd period to make it 5-2.  Beak's oldest grandson, Monet Mike,

Baron had his first Duffer goal, Beak is getting the puck bronzed.

Page 2

(Continued from page 1) made it 6-2 with a rebound wrist shot.  Chris Berserk closed it to 6-3 with a goal that almost made the top ten plays on ESPN, but he got bumped by a soccer goal.  Rob DeGuest scored his second goal to give the Reds a 7-3 lead that looked insurmountable with the way the Anvil was playing.  He stoned his son Nick on 4 breakaway chances.  He had Brinks and Thor talking to themselves. (Thor said swears and Brinks said prayers)  Then it happened, Fred Fruitcake Bobka scored on Eddie with a slow tickler that made the score 16-7.  The 4th goal squared is equal to 16 when the Bobka Factor is applied.  Beak took a pass in the slot from Jeff , but Rags slashed it off of his stick as he tried to shoot.  The puck ended up behind Beak so he whirled around and fired a backhander that missed 5 legs and a hubcap and beat the rookie goalie, who was screened by Rags' butt.  Monet Mike followed his grandpa's goal with one of his own, but as the Reds cut into the Bobka Factor lead, Magoo and V-Man scored to put the game away. TZ added one for the Whites to make it Reds 10, Whites 7.  Reds won the Meaningful score 3-2, but lost the Bobka Factor score.  You can read a reprint of the Bobka Factor at:  http://www.lopatka.net/10-01-15/index.html

Perfect Attendance

After 4 games, 10 Duffers have Perfect Attendance: Monet Mike*, Speed Racer Jeff, Doc, Bill BTW, Beak, The Czar, Tumblin Terry, Fruitcake Fred, Magoo and V-Man.

*Oscar-Claude Monet;  Born 14 November 1840 - 5 December 1926) was a founder of French Impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting. [The term "Impressionism" is derived from the title of his painting Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise), which was exhibited in 1874 in the first of the independent exhibitions mounted by Monet and his associates as an alternative to the Salon de Paris
The Senior Locker room will need some Beer
We will need beer for the Senior locker room while Brinks is golfing.  Beak will bring the cooler bag next week with ice and 12 cans that were provided by Baron

Nick DeJesus stumbled into the Senior Locker Room wearing his cute Christmas pajamas.  V-Man asked if that was Ted Nugent, so I did an image search and found a picture that supported that thought.

a few weeks ago.  We will need 12 -15 more now that Thor is back.  ;-)

Let me know if you can help out by bringing some beer or by giving me a sawbuck like Fred did last year for his birthday. Fred made it known before the game that that was an anomaly and it won't happen again. Maybe he will change his mind after he reads about his game winning goal last week. The Czar actually got Fred to laugh before the game when he picked up the cash, he saw everybody but Fred laughing at a Beak semi-true story. Mike said, "Fred, do you only laugh at the 3 stooges?" Fred's eyes lit up and he smiled and started spitting out infamous Stooges one liners. He laughed at every one. Everyone laughed at Fred as the Czar exited stage right with the cash. It was great theater!  "What does your watch say? Nothin, you have to look at it!"

The following week October 17, we have the night off. We will need beer on October 24th and most of November too.

Baron the Piercer scored his first Duffer goal.

Beak put the collar on Jeff after scoring 5 last week to beat his Grandpa's team. Jeff behaved and had 5 or 6 assists.

Monet Mike enjoyed playing forward and scored a pair.

V-Man scored one for the Whites.

Rob DeGuest had a pair.

The Maestro had one playing forward.

Joe thought Bill was showing his IQ.

TZ played defense so that he could get more ice time.

Berserk delivered the popcorn and scored a goal.

It's so hard to say good night when you are too tired to get off of the chair.

What do you think?
