Snowman Scores His First!

Romeoville, IL March 25, 2016  Attendance: 24

It is great to be out of the Arizona Sun and on to the ice again with the Duffers and my grandson and great grandchildren. I spent 5 days in Arizona looking for shade. It was in the 90s on the first day of spring! What do those people do in August? When I was in Fairbanks on the first day of spring in 2007, it was -40 F. and -40 C. (That is the only time those two temperature scales agree.)
The Game:
We had a one sided game until the final minutes when the Reds turned the kids loose. Matt Hammer and Dylan Nance scored to get the Reds to within 2 goals in the final minutes. The Whites won 7-5. Tommy Z had the other 3 for the Reds.

Eddie forgot about his headache.

Berserk tipped one past The Anvil in the first 30 seconds.  He later shot him in the face mask to get Eddie's blood flowing. The Anvil had nothing but love thoughts when he came to the Kilt and saw Anna. (See above picture of the Beauty and the Beasts) After the first period, we presented Stump's son Kyle with the game puck that he used to score his first Duffer goal 2 weeks ago.  Beak told him to go and get another one and he hit the post on his next shift! T&A was absent visiting his grandchild, so my report may be a little jaded.  I know Cupcake set up goals for Tom O and Art who had 2 goals, Snowman Dan scored his first Duffer goal.  Dan Smith was first called Snowman by T&A in Detroit when he solved the beer ice shortage by suggesting that we put some snow in the cooler.  That Engineering degree from Bradley is starting to come in handy.  V-man may have had one and Berserk had 2.  (That gets me to 7)
Before the game, while Barron was putting on the goalie pads, someone mentioned that Art was here and Barron looked like the guy in Slap Shot when he found out Ogie Ogilthorpe*, the villainous goon was playing. Barron quickly asked what color was he wearing?  He was relieved when we told him that Art liked to target the Anvil.
*Ogie Ogilthorpe, who cameos in the movie  Slapshot, was a character based on real-life goon Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe. Like in Slapshot, the real Ogilthorpe's legend precedes him. When Goldthorpe played his fists did the talking and his bleached blond afro had the potential to make clowns blush. He once threatened Don Cherry and got away with it. And while incarcerated in Syracuse during the American Hockey League season, coaching staff from his team would escort Goldthorpe back and forth from prison between games. (See his picture below)

Come out and see Jack Kroll at the Edge in Bensenville

Jack will be playing with the best 14-15 year olds in the State as they try to advance to the USA development program.  He plays Friday April 8th at 5:00 and Saturday at 8:00 AM

Peoria Road Trip
Ben Oskroba is now the captain for the Peoria Rivermen. We are planning a one night road trip to see Ben and Uncle Bob on April 8-9.  Duffers do not have ice on that Friday.
Let me know if you want to join us.

I had fun on my Saturday night date with Muzzy's daughter Paula.  She was thrilled with the Duffer Detroit tee shirt.  We tailgated on Sunday afternoon. Her location was easy to find since she had the only Cicero City Flag in the parking lot. When it was game time, Paula asked me if I wanted a "Walker". I said, "My hips are over 10 years old and I didn't have that many beers to require a walker." She gave me a beer in an insulator to drink while we were walking to the stadium.

Harvey gave be a bomb shaped bottle of rum.

The waitress knew who to give the Cub glass too.

We had a great turnout at the York Tavern, so we will have to add that place to our list of favorite lunch places.  (Left to Right) Magoo, Buckshot, Harvey, TO and Klinger's beak.  Not pictured are the two Gregs.

Left:  Beak, his grandson Mike and great granddaughter Carmela

Left:  Stump and his son Kyle.  Above, Greg Z with his son Jake.

March Madness was in full swing at the Tilted Kilt.  Dena made sure that Anna gave us our Duffer Discount.
