Welcome to

Happy Birthday

We celebrated the Czar's Birthday last week at Tom and Erica's house! This week we celebrated Beak's 76th birthday at the Tilted Kilt.

My Clever wife avoided a cake fire by using the Decimal number system. She put 7 candles in the Ten's column and 6 candles in the one's column. Next year we will use the Binary system and we will only need 4 candles.

1001101 = 77

Here is what happens when we do not have ice on a Friday night.

Ryan Dzingel's 1st goal

Tuesday, March 1, 2016: Ryan Dzingel's 2nd goal gives him a shooting percentage of 20%.  Second highest on the team.  They should have given him a chance in the shoot out.  They were 0 for 11 and gave the Blues 2 points for being 1 for 11.  Here is a link to the goal.

Saturday March 5, 2016: Ryan assisted on a game tying goal.  He had 5 hits in 14:28 minutes of ice time.  He was out there in the final minute when Toronto added a 6th attacker.

Ten Meaningful Goals!

Romeoville, IL February 26, 2016  Attendance: 22

After celebrating my birthday for 2 days, I remember very little from our Friday game.  I do remember that I had a goal and assist on my 76th birthday, but 79 year old Harvey scored his 5th goal in his last 4 games and overshadowed my feat.  I remember that we won when Barron shut down the Whites in the 3rd period.  I remember that Bill BTW had his second hat trick in the last 2 games.  One more hat trick and the Duffer elders may have to amend the Meaningful Rule to exclude Canadians with 2 eyes. (That will keep Geno meaningful.) T&A had a hat too, so he remembered the rest of the story and filled me in with his report below.  I remember that Ryan Kroll's Fund did very well and he thanked me with a bottle of Crown Royal. The Duffers are very generous and He and his Dad Ken says Thank You!.

Mazurk found his locker

The Game:

Reds 11 (5 meaningful)   Whites 7 (5 meaningful)

Red goals: Beak the birthday boy 1, Jeff Speed Racer 2, (2nd one was deflected into the top shelf by BBTW, the White's defensemen), V-Man 2, Brad 2,  (Guest of Jimmy Bones) Tom "TO" O'Connor 1, and T&A 3, (His Hat trick was provided by outstanding assists from Beak, Monet Mike, and TO)
White Goals: BBTW 3, (4 if you count the one that he deflected past his own goalie on a shot from the point by Speed Racer), The Czar 1, Rags 1, Terry 1, and Harvey 1 (Harvey is scoring on a faster pace per game than Gretsky!)  He has had 5 goals in the last 4 games.  He scored twice in the Joe Louis Arena.
Jimmy Bones
was solid in net for the Whites until the Reds got hot in the 3rd while Barron shut down the Whites in the third period with some great saves.

The Season is Winding Down

Unless we make the playoffs, we only have 5 more games left in our 44th season.  Many years ago, Klinger offered to pay for the ice to extend our season past Mother's Day, so we had 2 playoff games in May. We used to end the season with a game on Mother's Day.  In 1980, the turnout was low, that 10 year old Tweedy put his

whistle away and picked up his hockey stick.  He roofed a shot that beat Stump's lightning fast glove to become the youngest Duffer to score a goal.

Don't forget to put March 12 on your calendar.  The USA U-17 team comes to town.

Beak got a free desert just for being old.

Beak's Great Grandson Lennie helped finish the desert.

Rags bought some beers, although he does that almost every week.

Not everybody was able to stay awake for the party.  Ryan was worn out from fund raising and putting 18 goals on the scoreboard.

Beak gave Drago $50 for the Redwing ticket that he sold to a scalper in Detroit.  Joe donated the $50 to Ryan's Brick fund.

This is why our goalies are late getting out on the ice.

Donny is looking forward to seeing the Duffers at Fox Valley Rink.

USA U-17 plays the Steel on March 11 and 12th at 7:00.

My brother Herb sent me the video of our game in the Joe.

He recorded both of Harvey's goals.

Julie got us the ice and the bus.

Amber got us the tickets and Kim (Not pictured) got us the rooms.
