Four For The Lopatkas!

Romeoville, IL February 20, 2015  Attendance: 32

Duffers Demonstrate their Charitable Side!
When I reported that the Commander was going to be looking for donations on Friday, I thought we might be skating 4 on 4, but the opposite happened.  We had 3 full lines!  That has not happened since Bill BTW asked the King to join the Duffers.  The King told Bill that he had to impose a moratorium on new members because we were getting 3 full lines every week.  That is when he had Sanchez sitting outside of the locker room and waiting for the King to tell him that we had room for him to play that night.
The Czar tried to give us more ice time by eliminating the break after period 2.  So we only played 2 periods and never changed directions. Eddie and Johnny got their money's worth. There was no rest for the wicked.  Geno got the Reds on the board early with a nice pass from Jeff.  Joe Evans* made it 2-0 when he dazzled Johnny B with a flutter blast.  Cowboy Joe spoiled The Anvil's shutout when Eddie dropped his stick next to  the crease and Joe slid a shot that hit Ed's stick and made a right turn into the net.  Jeff sailed a wrist shot after that and put the reds up by 2 goals again.

Commander Ken says thanks for the donations.

Johnny B made 2 great saves on Beak after Tommy Z fed him a nice pass that he shot at the sliding JB. Johnny made a stick save, but the puck went up and over him and was heading for the goal line and Beak was ready to celebrate when he thought he had a goal, but Johnny made an acrobatic dive where he swatted the puck behind the net . Beak just shook his head and said, "You made 2 saves on one shot!"  Beak  later scored when he tipped a shot from the point by Nick the Prick. Nick swore that it was a pass, and asked if he would get mentioned in the Duffer news.  Nick later got an assist on a pass to IDON"TKNOW. The Whites almost scored on a shot that the Anvil clamped for a second or two, but it rolled out and into the net, but somebody blew a whistle before it came out of Ed's grasp, who had a whistle?  It had to be divine intervention. The Whites did not argue and lined up for a faceoff at the circle in the zone. (Who's going to argue with God?) Rob Zavalich got that back when scored a nice goal with a wrist shot through a crowd before anybody could blow a whistle. The assist may have been by Bill BTW or Rags.  Rags scored a second period goal to keep the game close. (I usually remember what period the goal was scored by making a mental note of which net it was scored in, but Friday, because of having 3 full lines, we never changed directions and we only played 2 periods. The first period was 30 minutes and the second period was 60 minutes) Beak scored his second goal when Rags' guest Scott, gave him nice pass from the point that he one-timed past Johnny. (It's got to be that Anthony Lewis stick that he acquired in Ann Arbor)

Eagle eye John Koss tried to get that goal disallowed at the tilted Kilt, but none of his teammates were listening to him.

Mike did his best Harvey Imitation.

Tommy Z, Jeff and Mini Wheezer, added goals for the Reds, but I could be wrong after drinking 2 root beers after the game. I found out that they were 5.9% alcohol.
Memorable Moments:

  • Commander Ken would like to thank everybody for donating to the Special Olympics fund. Only a few non drinking fast dressers escaped from the locker room before Bag man Ken got there with his bag of cash.  He said you can donate next week to this great cause.

  • I passed out 17 tickets to the Redwing game.  I will have Road Trip tee shirts next week.  Bring Money
  • Monet Mike had a Klinger Krash when he lost an edge and crashed into the boards.  He also got hit in his butt with a clearing pass from his brother Jeff.  You know the puck missed the pads and found the meat as it usually does.  He now has a bruise that looks like a tattoo of Mozambique.

  • Thor told Beak, "You had a little jump in your step this week, what did you do?"  Beak replied, "I took a pre-game dump like I used to do in high school before every basketball and football game.  I was the opposite of Glen Hall who was in the stall before every game talking to Ralph on the big white phone.  My coach would wait until he heard the flush before he gave his pre game talk."
  • Joe Evans has been the most improved Duffer since he took Hockey lessons back in March of 2010.
  • *Click here to read his account of that memorable month.
Perfect attendance: Bill BTW and Fruitcake Fred. still have Perfect Attendance:  Bill only missed one post game conference at the bar, Fred missed them all and has perfect absenteeism.

Thank You E-mail from Ken
Guys,

I gave Detective Tom Dorsey $185 on behalf of the Duffer's Hockey Club. See the photo attached. Tom is our official liaison to the Illinois Special Olympics. I couldn't be happier or more proud. Thank you to all!
Bagman Ken

Thanks to the Duffers who contributed last Friday, Commander Ken was able to raise $185 for the Special Olympics.

Beak asked Mike to  do his best Harvey imitation.  He obliged his bad grandpa.  Jeff knew better.

Thor had his head camouflaged while Jeff had his shaved.

T&A came straight from the Joliet Catholic playoff win.

Terry looks like the cat that swallowed the canary.  Bill BTW is not talking with the chief of police nearby.

Beak  hands over the money from a full locker room.  It was nights like this when someone would ask the King what he does with all of that money

I celebrated Hockey Day in America by watching my great granddaughter Carmela win her 8:20 AM game.  I then went to Center Ice to watch Luke win his 10:10 game.  I was amazed that Luke knew all about the Miracle on Ice game 35 years ago.  He pretends that he is goalie Craig when he plays.

Luke said, "I didn't do it!"

I started my Hockey weekend by watching Tweedy, Tommy Z,

and my grandsons win a Wags Hockey game on Thursday night.  Those 4 Duffers accounted for 5 of the 8 goals.

When we came out after a few rootbeers, we saw this banner hanging on the dumpster.  You get no respect after you lose 99 games.
