MVP to The Mazzarellas!

Romeoville, IL February 13, 2015  Attendance: 26

Good Bye Wild Wings, Hello Tilted Kilt!
Commander Ken was the first to arrive at Wild Wings after the game and found it was closed for remodeling. He called Beak just as he was getting ready to head over there, so he spread the word and everyone headed North on Weber Road and found the Tilted Kilt open with many open tables. (See pictures below) The Game was back and forth with the Brain shining and shutting down the Reds. Again.

First Period:
Monet Mike scored on a break away that pissed off Terry with a toe drag. A short time later, Mini Wheezer scored to make it Reds 2, Whites 0.
Second Period:

Steve the Hammer spoiled the Anvils shutout bid with a rebound goal early in the second period. Joe Mazz the third tied it and then Tommy Z scored just before the period ended to give the Whites their first lead. His shot hit the Anvil in the shoulder and then the puck went into the net.

A get well card for Brinks

     Third Period:
Doc ended his night of misses with a goal that put the Whites up 4-2.  Uncle Steve Mazz scored to make it 5-2. and invoke the seldom used Duffer "Two goal limit" rule.  Mini Wheezer scored his second goal to get the Reds back to a 2 goal deficit. He almost made it 5-4 when he hit the post, but that was as close as the Reds could get. The Whites scored 2 more to make it 7-3. (I think it was Steve Mazz and Rags) I tried to get the commander's son, Jack, to score because he was playing way too nice and trying to set up meaningful goals for Harvey, Geno and Beak. Jack said, "If I score, it won't count." After Beak explained the complicated Duffer scoring rules. Jack went down and beat the Brain to make the final score Whites 7, Reds 4.

Memorable Moments:

  • Koss had 2 Klinger Krashs. He did a face plant when his teammate Geno got his stick stuck in John's skate. By the time they untangled, the Whites took advantage of the 5 on 3 and scored. His second crash was caused when he made a sharp right turn and crashed into the boards in front of the White bench.
  • We had a great turnout for Friday the 13th. We got a lot of signatures on the Get Well card for Brinks.

Perfect attendance: Bill BTW and Fruitcake Fred. still have Perfect Attendance:

E-mail from Commander Ken

On Wednesday, Feb 18, at 10AM at Canlan I'll be skating a lap with some other Policeman and at least one Special Olympics' athlete (special needs kid or young adult). I'm going to try to wear my Duffers jersey! I'll send you a picture if I can pull it off.
Any funds we raise go to the Illinois Special Olympics.  If you would like to make a donation, I'll pass the hat on Friday.

LA Kings will Honor Tony

The Los Angeles Kings honored Barry Melrose (Who bought us pizza in 2001 in a San Jose Bar) last week end.  They will honor  Tony Granato on February 24.  Luc Robitaille will be honored at a later date as part of this season's popular Legends Night Series presented by McDonald's, and as part of this special series each 'Legend' will take part in a special Legends Luncheon hosted by Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. Each luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the day of their ceremony.

MVP

The Mazarrella's were named MVPs not for scoring goals, but for Papa Joe, who read the bad news e-mail about Brinks and went right to the liquor store and bought 2 cases of beer for Don's locker room!
