Duffer News

Mazzarellas 5, Lopatkas 5!

Romeoville, IL September 26, 2014  Attendance: 23
5 goals for the Joes!

The Mazzarellas had 5 goals (3 for the Whites and 2 for the Reds) and the Lopatkas had 5. (All 5 went to the Whites. Beak will have a talk with Jeff before the next game.) A bad trade was made by Beak when he sent his grandson Jeff to the Whites for a player to be named later.  Duffer GOD, Joe Mazzarella the III got the Reds off to a fast start when he flipped a shot past The Brain on his first shift.  Tommy Z set him up and Beak got out of the way. Joe's Dad, Cowboy Joe, tied the score on his second shift and he scored again soon after to put the Whites up 2-1.  Speed Racer Jeff scored when he was trying to set Brinks up and Greg Z followed that up with a goal and it looked like the rout was on, but Tommy Z cut into the lead when he blew a wrist shot past the Brain.  He then got an assist from Beak and cut the lead to 4-3.  Cowboy Joe scored his hat trick goal in the second period,

Cowboy Joe , Oldest Duffer SOD, scored 3 goals

but Fruit Fly Doc answered that goal and kept the game close.  Jeff scored again while trying to set Thor up.  Thor was a little rusty as he missed the first 3 games while chasing a little white ball around the links.  TZ scored to cap off the second period scoring with the Reds trailing 6-5. The Reds took a 7-6 lead early in the third period with 2 quick goals by Joe III and Tommy Z.  The Whites  tied it, midway through the third period, with Greg Z's second goal, then Jeff followed that up with 2 more goals to put a 1 in the ten's column and a zero in the one's column. (Ask your 3rd grader to explain our number system)  Tommy Z added another goal the make the final  Whites X, Reds VII.    Doc Dubreuil's guest Dan the Bird man was shut out and saw his 2.0 goals per game average drop to 1.333 GPG.  Cowboy Joe raised his GPG average to a lusty 2.5.  Johnny B had another fine game, but the Reds faltered late as the Brain put the clamps on them.

Perfect Attendance

After 4 games, 11 Duffers have Perfect Attendance: Johnny B, Monet Mike, Speed Racer Jeff, Doc, Bill BTW, Beak, The Czar, Tumblin Terry, Fruitcake Fred, Magoo and V-Man.

Brinks had 10 chances to score.  Monet Mike just laughs.

I didn’t have the luxury of having T&A here last Friday, so I knew I wouldn't remember who scored the 18 goals, so I took pictures of the goal scorers while they displayed fingers to represent the number of goals.

Joe Had 3 goals to raise his GPG average to 2.5

Thor was back in action.  He fouled off all of his passes.

Dan the Bird Man had his GPG average drop to 1.33

Dock raised his GPG average to 6.6

Greg had 2 more that provided the margin of victory.

Monet Mike Played D held his brother to 5 goals.

Brinks fouled off a few set ups.

Barron the Piercer

Drago was the only Joe without a goal.  TZ had 5.

3 for Dad and 2 for his son.

Cowboy Joe celebrated his Hat Trick with a Duffer Happy Meal.  (A thick beer and fries)

Luke had both of his grandpas cheering him on.

(Above) I got up early to watch my granddaughter Audrey hurl another gem.

(Left) Sunday, I watched my grandson Luke score 3 goals in his mite game and one in the shootout.
