Welcome to

Thanks to T&A for his game report. I remembered 20 of the 22 guys that scored the goals.  He filled in the blanks and added some assists.

Three Guest Reporters!

Romeoville, IL May 2, 2014  Attendance: ?

Shortly after I threatened to put out an all softball newsletter, I received game reports from Greg Z, Commander Ken and T&A giving us enough semi true material to fill 2 pages.  Uncle Bob loved 2 pagers when I used to fax the news to his place of business because it gave him time to finish his morning B.M.  I was looking forward to brag about my granddaughter Michelle's great tournament  where she beat out 2 bunts, singled in a run, doubled off of the fence for 2 more RBI.  She capped that off with a 3 run homerun.  I'm done, although videos and pictures are on Facebook.

Game Report from Greg Z

Klinger and Beak pose with a pig.

Game was great. Whites won 7-6 over the reds. I believe the reds got an early 4-0 start. Brinks got a hat trick. Thor came super close to scoring a few times. Ambrosia got at least 1. I got 2. Stevie Wonder (The Hammer) got one, and I'm not sure who got the other one. Donny came into our locker room after the game. We all (and honestly I mean EVERYONE) went out to BWW. Big turn out.*  Everyone had a blast, great stories, and a great time. TA can tell you more details I think.   * The Czar would faint if Fred showed up.

Greg Z

Game Report from Commander Ken

Is that you petting a pig? How many beers did you have?
I can remember the following:
I think the Whites won 9-8. It might have been a tie, but I think the Whites won. Which was a huge come back. -They were down 4 or 5 to 0 in the first.  Matthew Hammerquist played with his dad, He dominated with his speed and stick handling - but he only took one shot that I recall.  Steve had one for the whites - a nice jam shot near the net.  Greg Z had at least two for the whites. Rumor has it that Thor got shut out despite his bride and grandkids cheering him on in attendance.
Terry took a BIG spill in the first and was saved by his face shield. I didn't see it, but others did. Terry himself said he is lucky his nose isn't broken.  Fred Bobka had one for the reds - a game tying goal I believe.
I had two!!! I had a big wrister from the high slot in the first to open the scoring. I celebrated inappropriately.

My apologies. The truth be known - I don't expect to score - so when I do - I'm pretty excited.  My second goal came on a one timer when Koss held in a clearing attempt at the blue line. It was a GREAT pass. I owe every ounce of

that goal to Koss - I buried a one-timer on a moving puck.

Michelle gets a put out under a rainbow.

Page 2 of Duffer News #744

-(Continued from Page 1) Again - I was elated. I think the score was 7 - 7 or 8 - 7 (Red) then.  Less than a minute later - I turned over a lazy puck at our blue line that resulted in a 2 on 0 break and a winning goal. I felt shame.
BBTW had a beautiful duck-soup move in the first for the Reds. He gave me a history lesson on why the Habs suck at BWW. He said he grew up a Montreal fan, then converted one day to the Bruins.
We learned that Ken Drydan was a member of the Canadian Parliament, he was originally a draft choice of the Bruins, and he only played 9 years in the NHL. He won 5 Stanley Cups in 9 seasons. He's an IVY Leaguer - a graduate of Cornell and a NHL Hall of Famer. The 9 year part was surprising.
I would suspect that Tommy Z had a couple - he's a really good hockey player! Clearly I left out a lot of goals, but that's about as much as I can recall.
My last piece of information; - petting a pig is fun as long as your friends don't find out.
See you next week.  Ken (Commander K.K.)

Game Report from T&A

Whites - 9 (Brinks - 3, Greg Z - 2, T&A - 2, Drago - 1, Steve (The Guest) - 1
Reds - 8 (Commander Ken - 2, Bill By The Way - 2, Joe Jr. III , Mini, Geno, & Freddie each had 1.
The Reds got off to a fast start with 4 goals in the first period. Eddie was stellar, zero goals in the 1st period. Once again he was on the Duffer Steroids (Crown Royal) in pre-game.
Tommy Z set up Commander Ken, Bill By The Way, Mini-Wheezer, & Joe Jr III for their 1st period tallies.
Greg Z got the Whites on the board in the second period, but the Reds scored again to make it 5-1. Terry made a nice stretch pass to spring Geno on a breakaway and he beat Johnny B on the short side for a 5-1 lead.
When I was on the bench between shifts, I was checking on The Hawks playoff game for updates. I had good news and bad news for our bench. Bickell had just scored a power play goal for a Hawks early lead, but the Rangers scored in overtime to beat the Penguins. The bad news did not sit well with Brinks!
Fortunately for the Whites, we also had a young and hungry rookie teenager named Matt, son of Steve (The Guest). Between Matt and Greg Z 's great assists, Brinks scored three fast goals and I added two, for 5 Meaningful goals and a 6-5 lead. Drago scored a goal, but was answered by Bill By The Way, his 2nd tally of the game.. Whites were up 7-6 after two.
In the 3rd period, Greg Z scored again for his 2nd goal, but so did Commander Ken for his 2nd tally of the game. He did lift his stick after his score and was given some shit (LOL) by a few of the Duffer veterans in the locker room after the game. Steve , The Guest, scored an insurance goal to give the Whites a two goal lead late.
So with 30 second left in the game (Whites leading 9-7) Tommy Z wins a draw deep in the White zone, and back to Freddie for a shot from the point that beats Johnny B who was screened. Final score Whites - 9 & Reds -8. Meaningful score - Whites = 5 (Brinks - 3 (HAT TRICK) and T&A -) & Reds = 2 (Geno & Freddie) Bobka factor = ???? We packed BWW afterwards and Sami gave us great service!

*The White goals were confirmed by all scorers from the White team at BWW. So, I have true sources with first hand knowledge, but yes your honor, they were all under the influence.
For the Reds scores, BBTW could have only had one, which could give Geno 2, or Joe Jr III 2.
T&A

Koss claims he scored a goal on his own rebound, so now what is the score?

Memorable Moments

  • Thor made his appearance in weeks.  His bride and grandkids were cheering him on in the stands.
  • Terry took a BIG spill in the first and was saved by his face shield. Terry said he is lucky his nose isn't broken.
  • Fred Bobka scored the 8th goal for the Reds that gave the Reds a 71-9 win using the Bobka Factor.
  • Wild Wing Turn out was almost 100% Fred went straight home to collect on his game winning goal.
  • Team Picture is next week.

Will Hacksaw make it back for the Team Picture Friday?

5 years ago, we sprung him from the clutches of Florida and he went on a Duffer Road Trip thanks to The Czar's smart phone.
