Caretha Carroll, Class of 2001
Track & Field, Basketball, Volleyball and Cross Country

Presenter: Stephen Gladden

Caretha was in Track & Field for four years, a major letter all four years, All Conference all four years, All State as a junior, Most Improved Player Award (MIP) all four years, MVP all four years, Tiger Award in junior and senior years and Most Valuable Runner in her sophomore year. She played basketball three years, major letter all three years and MIP in junior year. She played volleyball for two years, a major letter in senior year, MIP in junior year and All Conference in senior year. She also was in cross country for one year and a major letter in freshman year. She was voted HTHS Willye White Foundation Outstanding Female Athlete in 2000 and received the Most Athletic Award in her senior year.


Caretha's Track & Field successes include: As a junior, the only second HTHS Track & Field athlete to compete in the Illinois State Track & Field finals, 100 meter Sectional Champion & state finals qualifier. As a senior, she was two time GCAC All Conference, 100 meter Section Champion & state finals qualifier, 200 meter Section Champion & state final qualifier, 200 meter State Finalist. Her personal best 100 meters 12.30 and 200
meters 25.81 were both school records.

After graduation from HTHS, Caretha was an extremely successful four year member of the Carthage College Women's Track Team. Some examples of her achievements are:
Four year All American and All Conference as a member of the 4X100 meter Division III relay team in which she was the lead runner. She placed in National Finals all four years.   

Caretha graduated from Carthage  College with a B.A. in Education. She is currently a pre-kindergarden teacher; a position she has held for the last four years.  Caretha is married to Andre' James.  They were married on October 6, 2012.  Caretha also teaches Sunday school at Holy Family Church.

Jorge has served 24 years at HTHS as Coach, Assistant Athletic Director and Math Teacher. He has coached various sports at Holy Trinity including: Track & Field, Boys & Girls 1990-1999; Cross Country, Boys & Girls 1998-1999; Girls Softball, Assistant Coach 2000; Girls JV Basketball 1990-1993; Girls Varsity Basketball 1995-1999 and 2003-2009; Boys Sophomore JV Basketball 2001-2003; Boys Varsity
Basketball, Assistant 2001-2003. IBCA Coach of the Year - 1998, 2006, 2007

He has an impressive overall record of 240W, 130L (65%) including: Girls JV Basketball: 30W, 15L (67%); Girls Var. Basketball: 173W, 103L (63%); Boys Soph. Basketball: 16W, 10L (62%); Boys Junior Varsity & Boys Varsity Basketball: 21W, 2L (91%).
   
His Championship teams include:
   Girls Varsity Basketball: IHSA State Regional Championship 1995,
   1998, 2006 - 2009;
   CPC Conference Champions 1995, 2007, 2008, 2009;
   GCAC 2nd Place Conference 1996 - 1998 and 2005 - 2006;
   GCAC White Division Tournament Championship 2007, 2009;
   Girls JV Basketball: CPC JV Conference Champions 1991-1992;
   CPC JV Conference Tournament Champions1992;
   Boys Sophomore JV Basketball: CPC JV Conference Tournament
   Championship 2001;
   Boys & Girls Cross Country: 1998 team - 3 Sectional Qualifiers;
   2002 Boys HTHS Hall of Fame Basketball Team;
   Track & Field: 1995 CPC Boys & Girls Conference Meet Winners.
   He also coached State Finalist (2nd Place in the 100 meter hurdles)   in 1995. 

Jorge and his wife Laura have been married for 8 years and live on the north side of Chicago.  Both Laura and Jorge are faculty members of HTHS.  Laura teaches in the Science Department (18 years) and Jorge in the Math Department (24 years).  Jorge graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1989 with a Bachelors of Science degree.
