Wheezer and Hacksaw
Crush Tweedy!
Friday 2/9/01
A record number of fans showed up last week, when Zagnut’s Toyota co-workers came out to cheer and jeer their friend, (Tommy Z.). This record was set without our most dedicated fan, Wendy.  The fans were treated to a thrilling game and an even better time at Henrys.
Wheezer’s first shot eluded Tweedy to give the Whites an early lead that lasted until Harvey tied it up with a Stump beater.  It looked like another meaningful tie when Hacksaw bounced one past Tweedy for the game winner.  The scoreboard showed the Blues with a 3 goal lead and the fans called for the Whites to pull their goalie.  They were confused when they were told that the Whites were winning 2-1. We couldn’t pull Stump, because we didn’t have a Stump Puller.
The fans were enlightened at the bar when they found out that the Uncle Bob and Zagnut goals were meaningless.  Alien caused more than his usual havoc this week with his late arrival.  Usually the team with the fewest players gets him.  The Home team bench is closest to the locker room so they always tell him to go Blue.  This week both teams had 3 full lines and Alien could never rotate in with 4 other defensemen, so Beer nuts suggested that Alien should put on the Zebra shirt.  The King disagreed and Beer nuts went home early, giving Alien plenty of space on the Blue bench.

Christmas Party

Berserk has graciously volunteered to host the Duffer Festivas party on Saturday, February 24 in his new house.

 The Peoria Rivermen

won their 200th game in the ECHL since joining the largest minor hockey league five seasons ago. On Sunday afternoon, a crowd of 5,554 was thrilled as Peoria blanked the Greensboro Generals, 5-0. The Rivermen had dropped two shootout decisions to the Generals by 2-1 margins in the past week and have now won two in a row heading into the All-Star Break. JF Boutin notched a hat trick on Sunday scoring Peoria’s 1st, 3rd and 5th goals, two on the powerplay. The Rivermen converted on three of seven powerplay advantages enroute to their 29th win. Boutin scored first ,just 3:56 into the game as the only goal of that period. Lauri Kinos scored the lone goal of the 2nd period at the 11:47 mark. Boutin came back with his 2nd of the night just 2:17 into the final period and then Blaine Fitzpatrick got Peoria’s 2nd powerplay goal just 3:25 later. Boutin’s completion of the hat trick came at the 12:41 mark and it was then up to Curtis Sanford to complete the shutout. Sanford was really never tested, but did face 17 shots, several on break-a-ways. It was Curtis’ 2nd shutout of the season and will keep among the league leaders. Joe Rybar added three assists in the win, Bret Meyers and Arvid Rekis added two assists each. Peoria outshot the Generals by a 37-17 count and killed off all seven General powerplay chances. The Rivermen improve to 29-14-7, with 65 points and trail division leading Toledo by just two points. Toledo will play two games before hosting Peoria on Saturday, February 17. The Storm host Johnstown on Wednesday and Dayton on Friday. Peoria will return home after playing at Toledo and host Johnstown on Sunday, February 18. The Rivermen remain in 5th place overall in the ECHL, just a point behind Louisiana (66) and two points back of Toledo and South Carolina (67). Trenton, with 73 points continues to lead the Northern Conference and the ECHL.
More News: Tuesday, February 20, 2001 Mr. Kyle Petty will be appearing!

 Stump makes a save.

A rare picture of a Duffer bench with out a laugh.

Tommy Z tells his brother John how he shot over Stump's head and still got it under the cross bar for a goal.

The fun loving people at Toyota filled the stands Friday night to cheer and jeer Zagnut.  They set a new Duffer attendance record.

Beak shaves with his broken skate.  That skate blade went on to become the Klinger Krash Award.  Super Dave's stick got caught in Beak's skate and when he tried to skate it broke off.  Beak thought he had broken his leg.  When He got up, he fell again with no blade.

Stump reads the Duffer News.

The Beer man couldn't give it away.

30 Years of Laughter!

It's not over til it's over!
