Season High turn out!

A season high turn out had the defensemen rotating 5 guys.  I remember a few years back, when we had younger legs, rotating 5 "D" would cause some problems.  Fruitcake and Koss almost went to blows, when they thought they were cheated out of a shift.  Wally Kraft tried to simplify things by assigning a number to each player.  Players #1 and #2 went out first, then #3 and #4 took the next shift and players #1 and #5 went out for the 3rd shift.  Sounds simple doesn't it?

But it got confusing when Fred  was #3, but his jersey was #4 and Wally was #1, but his jersey was # 2.  There was some swinging and swearing before they made it through 5 rotations.  After that, The King issued a Newsletter that showed the rotation with hand drawn graphics.  (This was before computers) I was happy to see that The NYPD Duffers (New Young Polite Duffers) handled the rotation without a problem last week.  Rich Storm, BBTW, Maestro, The Flea and Fruitcake went through the whole game without a fight!  We could sell "Pay Per View" if we could get The Flea to fight someone.

The Game featured great goal tending through 2 periods!

The game was tied 3-3 after 2 periods with Red goals by Mini Wheezer, Back Hand Johnny and TZ.  Johnny lived up to his name , when he roofed a back hander that hit the Brain's water bottle.  The Whites answered those with 2 Meaningful Goals by Thor and 1 by Tweedy.  The Anvil and The Brain were kicking almost everything out, until early in the third period, when TZ fired a shot that the Brain got a piece of, but it slowly ambled over the goal line for a back breaker.  Someone at the bar, said it looked like a turtle slowly walking across the goal line.  Rich Storm made a mental note and came up with the picture above.  Shortly after that goal, The Bookie fired a pass to Geno who made it Reds 5-Whites 3.  The Maestro put the game out of reach when he beat the Brain to make it 6-3.  Brinks, Tweedy and Art, who did a nice job of keeping his shot down, buzzed The Anvil many times, but only Tweedy could get one into the net to make it 6-4.  Someone made the final 7-4, but no one claimed it and Perry and I could not remember that memorable goal.  (Maybe JZ had 2) The Whites won the Meaningful game 2-1.  Hacksaw almost scored again this week, but Eddie slid over and shut off the opening.

Three more Birthday Celebrations!

Beak broke out another bottle of bubbly as Frank (70), Beak (68) and Mike (40) completed another trip around the sun.
